This is the second painting in my Barong series, continuing my exploration of the Balinese deity who represents protection, balance, and the force of good. In Balinese mythology, Barong is a sacred guardian spirit, often portrayed as a lion-like creature that stands against destructive energies and preserves harmony between opposing forces. In this work, I wanted to highlight Barong’s ceremonial presence through bold color, ornamental detail, and a strong frontal composition. The face becomes both mask and spirit: expressive, powerful, and almost regal in its stillness. The intricate surface and radiant decorations reinforce the sense of Barong as a divine protector, deeply rooted in ritual and cultural memory.
As part of the series, this painting expands on the idea of Barong not only as a mythological figure, but as a timeless symbol of resilience, spiritual strength, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness.
